Ricardo is our assistant to the staff. His duties include paperwork, statistics, answering the phone that rings endlessly and filling in wherever is needed on a daily basis at the shelter.
Born and raised in Cozumel Island surrounded by the nature and beauty of the island, Ricardo developed from very young age a strong urge to learn about animals of all kinds.
Upon finishing high school, he went to Chetumal to study biology at the Instituto Tecnologico de Chetumal ITCH where he obtained a degree in biology with a specialty in tropical resource management. This was followed by an internship at the Biouniverzoo of Chetumal. He returned to Cozumel after graduation where he became very well known for his years of volunteer work for the Ecology Department, mainly aiding the Sea Turtle Conservation Program.
He remains passionate about wild animals, especially reptiles and spiders and has a strong interest in birds. Other passions include paleontology, history, mythology and video games.
“I’m sincerely thankful for my life in Cozumel, working with the fauna has helped me to understand more about us and what we can do to coexist peacefully with such amazing creatures.”
