First letter We have been working for the animals for over ten years now, and for many of those we have talked about the need of a newsletter. We have been extremely fortunate to get the support of trusting people that rarely if ever ask us where the money is going. If anything, people just ask us how we did on this or that event. And as important as it is to let people know periodically about our work, a newsletter has always been kept in the back burner. We are a small group, and work does pile up. So today I decided to start putting it together myself, and then as always others will help pull through and improve it. And because it seems that I needed a big reason to start it, I am doing it in memory of my dear dog Chola, who died at age 14 very recently, on July 10th. My husband Tony and I started a family in Baja, with her and my 15 year old Cabo Kitty. We rescued her from the dog pound in Ensenada, mangy and with a broken leg. From then on, she became central to our home, which eventually was to be Cozumel. I know her life with us was as good as it gets, always loved and respected. Her death was just like her character, mellow and natural, and a clear lesson for us. It may be part of the preciousness in the privilege of our relationship with dogs, that it lasts a short time. Still, we love her forever. Monica Velasco Ariza, President/Volunteer |
